Gydets, Widgets and the Wonders of the Web

Lately I have been tinkering with the wonders of widgets from ReverbNation and now thanks to information coming via mi2n's newsletter, the gydget!!
Here is the gydget I created for Violet Femmes.


You can grab it and add it to your site, myspace, facebook and too many other blog sites etc, to mention.
This one is cool as it is small and has the video, blog and event listings.
I am trying these widgets, and gydgets and everything else that comes my way as a means of reaching more and more fans for the artists I promote and support.

Another amazing widget is from Reverbnation, a site with great artists and networking opportunities, a place to hear new music.



It is called a Tune Widget.
Just another fun way to spread the word to friends.

So, if you like the widgets, grab one and share it with others. A great gift to have new music and talent come your way when you least expect it.

Beth Southwell singing Laughter In The Wind

I just added Beth's video to digg.com, a site that encourages visitors to comment and either dig or bury postings.I am trying out different viral marketing strategies and seeing which ones bring positive result. So if any of you readers out there feel like visiting digg and adding a 'dig it' for Beth's video posting that would be appreciated. It will be interesting to see what happens with this. I discovered a great band on digg, so I am hopeful for good results. This is a beautiful live performance video of Beth Southwell sharing an emotional song speaking of personal hope. A heartfelt performance.Taken from the Violet Femmes Showcase Concert at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre in BC. You can hear her neice gurgling in the background if you listen closely, she wanted to be on youtube too.I also figured out where I had heard the Ingrid Michaelson song, it was on the Old Navy ad on television!

Ingrid Michaelson on Carson Daly

This is the wonder of the web.
I was checking out pure volume and went to their acoustic forum.
Someone posted a link to William Fitzsimmons, a beautiful and unique songwriter.
William plays with Ingrid Michaelson sometimes and so he directed me to her page,

There I found this video, of her performing on the Carson Daly Show. I am sure I have heard her song somewhere, don't know if its the radio or not.
It is a great song and a strong performance.

A Very Vancouver Christmas Vol. II (Independent)

Here's a pleasing set of left-field holiday tunes from some strong local talent. There's slick R&B from Larissa Garth, the splendid folk pop of Tony Marriott's "A Squeegee Christmas", and a slyly heart-rending duet from Marq DeSouza and Nenah Barkley called "Let's Be Honest With Each Other for Once (This Christmastime)". Most of the other 10 tracks are no less impressive, and proceeds go to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau and the BCSPCA. Aside from those who have the misfortune of being made out of mouthwateringly delicious turkey or ham, everybody wins.

Fara Palmer at the 2007 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards

Fara Palmer is one if the artists featured on the VIOLET FEMMES CD compilation.
Fara is a Cree/Saulteaux woman who hails from North Battleford, Saskatchewan Canada and currently lives near Kamloops B.C. Her songs are in constant rotation on Aboriginal Voices Radio, which can be heard in Vancouver (106.3 FM), Calgary (88.1 FM), Edmonton (89.3 FM), Kitchener (102.5 FM),Toronto (106.5 FM), Ottawa (95.7 FM) and in Montreal (106.7 FM).

I was immediately taken in by the honesty of her songwriting and performance. Her songs have the ability to bring you tears as well as belly laughs. 'Blah Blah Blah' is the song selected for the VIOLET FEMMES CD and its tongue in cheek treatment of the universal subject of faithfulness is right on. Fara rules. Artist Bio
Sharon has travelled and lived in many places and tried her hand at many different styles of music. This sets her music apart because she uses all of these in her songs. She started singing in her first band at just 12 years old, covering anything from Level 42 to the Police.After High School she briefly studied Classical Voice at a renowned Conservatory only to move on to be Lead vocal in a Rock band and end up touringthe World in various Musicals. She loves and excels at Blues and has done and a lot of session work for Blues Labels. This lady can sing anything.
She holds a degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music.
Sharon is a recent triple finalist in the Unisong songwriting competition, and a dual finalist in the U.K. songwriting competition.
