Violet Femmes Showcase April 1st at the Media Club in Vancouver.

Violet Femmes features the best and the brightest of women performers from Vancouver and beyond.
This show features Alaska's Marian Call, and AURAL Heather, both from Violet Femmes Vol 2 and Beth Southwell from Violet Femmes Vol 1
Here is some information about the artists performing in this show.

Marian Call

"...If I were a betting man, I would put my money on Marian Call. Vanilla is a Certified Desert Island Disc, and any other awards or monikers you can think to throw its way. It's the best thing I've heard thus far in 2008, and is one of the three best debut albums I've ever heard. Remember the day and time when you first heard about Marian Call, and get on the bandwagon soon. This star is going to burn bright." - Wildy Haskell, music reviewer & pop culture blogger

AURAL Heather is Heather Haley and Roderick Shoolbraid.

An interesting twist on poetry, AURAL Heather has taken an artform to higher levels of cool. Pulling no punches, AURAL Heather drops the truth on a diverse array of controversial topics relevant to society. Doing it with an undeniable allure, lead poet Haley's voice is both sensual and intriguing delivering the real to you without apology.

For most, this form of artistic release may be quite new. The artists have been plying their craft in the underground scene for years, but do yourself a favor and open your ears and mind to a complex and intriguing ageless artform.

AURAL Heather has fashioned a unique style of melding some very cool musical production with haunting realities communicated in memorable, sensual and haunting vocal stylings. The core musical aspects of this act are the essence of cool, ...

Beth Southwell, Elise and I on COOP Radio

Last night, Sunday, Nov. 25th, Beth, Elise and I appeared alongside host Jeannie Mark on The Women's Storytelling Show on CFRO 102.7 fm, Vancouver's Coop Radio.
We were telling the story of the evolution of Violet Femmes. Beth sang her heart out live in the studio, as Elise provided her gentle violin fills and solos. The two elements made for a marvellous mix in the small studio setting.
Jeannie featured several tracks from the Violet Femmes Compilation CD. We heard from Edmonton's trio, Asani, groovetronic Ellee Ven, Denmark's enigmatic Emma Ninel and Florida's healing angel, Krishna Rose.
I would like to thank Jeannie and sound tech Padma for their generous hospitality and the opportunity to share all the exciting news of the upcoming showcases featuring artists from the Violet Femmes Compilation CD. It is great to speak with others as enthusiastic about the talent on the CD as I am.
We are looking forward to our rock/pop artists coming to Vancouver to perform at the Red Room on Richards St in February and March of 2008. Adriana Lorenzi from Venezuela is confirmed for March 15th. You can see her video at www.violetfemmes.ca/Home

Emma Ninel and Beth Southwell

We had a magical evening of music on Wed, Nov 21st. We gathered at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre to hear the first of the Violet Femmes showcase concerts.
Emma Ninel travelled from Denmark with the amazing Gustaf L, lapsteel player extraordinaire.
Beth Southwell literally lives around the corner from the Cultch, so it was a short journey to the stage for the first set of the night. Beth had her new band with her and they shone brightly for this, their first performance together. Elise on violin, Wayne on drums and Bahiyyih singing angelic back up vocals made a sweet addition to Beth's well crafted songs. Jesse Waldman joined them on guitar for the last three songs, adding punch and charisma.
Beth sang with total commitment and moved the audience with her unique song styling, phrasing and emotional depth.
Emma took her audience into the silence, as she requested no applause for the first part of her set. Emma played the VECC's grand piano and it seemed a waterfall of sound was cascading, surrounding the audience, a sensation that rose and fell with her soulful, healing vocals. Emma heals the soul with her simple, haunting melodies.
It was Emma's birthday, so we finished off the evening with a beautiful birthday cake, candles and all. After blowing out her candles, Emma treated us to an acapella version of 'One Little Spark."
The audience exited to the foyer where cake was enjoyed by one and all.
