Gydets, Widgets and the Wonders of the Web

Lately I have been tinkering with the wonders of widgets from ReverbNation and now thanks to information coming via mi2n's newsletter, the gydget!!
Here is the gydget I created for Violet Femmes.

Banner 2 Banner 1 go!

You can grab it and add it to your site, myspace, facebook and too many other blog sites etc, to mention.
This one is cool as it is small and has the video, blog and event listings.
I am trying these widgets, and gydgets and everything else that comes my way as a means of reaching more and more fans for the artists I promote and support.

Another amazing widget is from Reverbnation, a site with great artists and networking opportunities, a place to hear new music.

Violet%20FemmesQuantcast

It is called a Tune Widget.
Just another fun way to spread the word to friends.

So, if you like the widgets, grab one and share it with others. A great gift to have new music and talent come your way when you least expect it.

Happy Holidays to you all.
Keep checking back as the videos will change.

Beth Southwell singing Laughter In The Wind

I just added Beth's video to digg.com, a site that encourages visitors to comment and either dig or bury postings.I am trying out different viral marketing strategies and seeing which ones bring positive result. So if any of you readers out there feel like visiting digg and adding a 'dig it' for Beth's video posting that would be appreciated. It will be interesting to see what happens with this. I discovered a great band on digg, so I am hopeful for good results. This is a beautiful live performance video of Beth Southwell sharing an emotional song speaking of personal hope. A heartfelt performance.Taken from the Violet Femmes Showcase Concert at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre in BC. You can hear her neice gurgling in the background if you listen closely, she wanted to be on youtube too.I also figured out where I had heard the Ingrid Michaelson song, it was on the Old Navy ad on television!

Ingrid Michaelson on Carson Daly

This is the wonder of the web.
I was checking out pure volume and went to their acoustic forum.
Someone posted a link to William Fitzsimmons, a beautiful and unique songwriter.
William plays with Ingrid Michaelson sometimes and so he directed me to her page,
Ingrid Michaelson
There I found this video, of her performing on the Carson Daly Show. I am sure I have heard her song somewhere, don't know if its the radio or not.
It is a great song and a strong performance.
Visit her site to see her tour dates.

"A Very Vancouver Christmas" CD from Rave On Studio's Jenn Ashton

Vancouver's Rave On Studio's Jenn Ashton has collected some original and special music for the "A Very Vancouver Christmas Vol 2" CD.
To hear songs from the CD and get it in time for Christmas visit their website
at A Very Vancouver Christmas
Money made from the CD goes to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau and the BCSPCA.
Tony Marriott and Melissa Endean, who are on this CD are also featured on RPW Records
Music For Coffee Beings Vol 2
compilation CD, going out to coffee shops across Canada.

Here is the review on A Very Vancouver Christmas Vol 2 from the Georgia Straight. Various Artists

A Very Vancouver Christmas Vol. II (Independent)

Here's a pleasing set of left-field holiday tunes from some strong local talent. There's slick R&B from Larissa Garth, the splendid folk pop of Tony Marriott's "A Squeegee Christmas", and a slyly heart-rending duet from Marq DeSouza and Nenah Barkley called "Let's Be Honest With Each Other for Once (This Christmastime)". Most of the other 10 tracks are no less impressive, and proceeds go to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau and the BCSPCA. Aside from those who have the misfortune of being made out of mouthwateringly delicious turkey or ham, everybody wins.

Fara Palmer at the 2007 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards

Fara Palmer is one if the artists featured on the VIOLET FEMMES CD compilation.
Fara is a Cree/Saulteaux woman who hails from North Battleford, Saskatchewan Canada and currently lives near Kamloops B.C. Her songs are in constant rotation on Aboriginal Voices Radio, which can be heard in Vancouver (106.3 FM), Calgary (88.1 FM), Edmonton (89.3 FM), Kitchener (102.5 FM),Toronto (106.5 FM), Ottawa (95.7 FM) and in Montreal (106.7 FM).

I was immediately taken in by the honesty of her songwriting and performance. Her songs have the ability to bring you tears as well as belly laughs. 'Blah Blah Blah' is the song selected for the VIOLET FEMMES CD and its tongue in cheek treatment of the universal subject of faithfulness is right on. Fara rules. You can learn more about her at FARA'S MYSPACE PAGE

Fara is a passionate person, devoted to her girls and family, driven by her need to create and constantly learning and growing as we all aspire to do.

I am thrilled to be able to post this video clip for you to experience.

Here is Fara performing at the 2007 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards, Edmonton. She is singing "To Bring Back Yesterday", a song she wrote about her mothers experience at residential school.

Amie Street: A great place to listen to music.

If you are looking for some great new music you should head over to Amie Street.
I have found lots of special songs there, some of which you can download for free. As the songs gain in popularity the cost of the download increases.
I uploaded the Violet Femmes Compilation CD a week ago and it can be downloaded for approx $2.54, what a deal for a CD featuring 18 unique artists. You can recommend songs and make comments as well.

Today I was inspired and uploaded Two Tall Women's CDs
and Revealing Graces CD.

It is amazing how quickly the plays rack up, especially when they are free. It is so nice to read the recommentations and comments added by the Amie St. visitors.

I noticed that Emma Ninel has her CD upstairsinsidebeyond. up now.

So music lovers, head on over and hear some wonderful music, from unknown as well as some well known artists.

Hold Your Heart by Emma Ninel

Emma Ninel has this song on the Violet Femmes Compilation CD. This video for the song was recorded in September 2007 in Denmark. I live in a small town outside Copenhagen. we shot the pictures at the "Viking Town". The Danes are known for the Vikings, and here there are some buildings from that time. It hasn't that much to do with the title of the song, but it is a beautiful spot. Enjoy!

Two Tall Women-Something You Said

Here is Beth singing 'Something You Said', it's not the version on the CD, it was recorded with Two Tall Women at the Beaumont Studios in Vancouver.
This song will be recorded for Beths new CD to be released in 2008.

Beth Southwell, Elise and I on COOP Radio

Last night, Sunday, Nov. 25th, Beth, Elise and I appeared alongside host Jeannie Mark on The Women's Storytelling Show on CFRO 102.7 fm, Vancouver's Coop Radio.
We were telling the story of the evolution of Violet Femmes. Beth sang her heart out live in the studio, as Elise provided her gentle violin fills and solos. The two elements made for a marvellous mix in the small studio setting.
Jeannie featured several tracks from the Violet Femmes Compilation CD. We heard from Edmonton's trio, Asani, groovetronic Ellee Ven, Denmark's enigmatic Emma Ninel and Florida's healing angel, Krishna Rose.
I would like to thank Jeannie and sound tech Padma for their generous hospitality and the opportunity to share all the exciting news of the upcoming showcases featuring artists from the Violet Femmes Compilation CD. It is great to speak with others as enthusiastic about the talent on the CD as I am.
We are looking forward to our rock/pop artists coming to Vancouver to perform at the Red Room on Richards St in February and March of 2008. Adriana Lorenzi from Venezuela is confirmed for March 15th. You can see her video at www.violetfemmes.ca/Home

Emma Ninel and Beth Southwell

We had a magical evening of music on Wed, Nov 21st. We gathered at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre to hear the first of the Violet Femmes showcase concerts.
Emma Ninel travelled from Denmark with the amazing Gustaf L, lapsteel player extraordinaire.
Beth Southwell literally lives around the corner from the Cultch, so it was a short journey to the stage for the first set of the night. Beth had her new band with her and they shone brightly for this, their first performance together. Elise on violin, Wayne on drums and Bahiyyih singing angelic back up vocals made a sweet addition to Beth's well crafted songs. Jesse Waldman joined them on guitar for the last three songs, adding punch and charisma.
Beth sang with total commitment and moved the audience with her unique song styling, phrasing and emotional depth.
Emma took her audience into the silence, as she requested no applause for the first part of her set. Emma played the VECC's grand piano and it seemed a waterfall of sound was cascading, surrounding the audience, a sensation that rose and fell with her soulful, healing vocals. Emma heals the soul with her simple, haunting melodies.
It was Emma's birthday, so we finished off the evening with a beautiful birthday cake, candles and all. After blowing out her candles, Emma treated us to an acapella version of 'One Little Spark."
The audience exited to the foyer where cake was enjoyed by one and all.
